Project Online has retired

Your Project Online schedules
need somewhere to live.

Microsoft retired Project Online on 30 September 2026, and Planner does not do critical path scheduling. Aimavera opens MS Project XML in the browser and schedules it with a full CPM engine: logic, calendars, constraints, baselines and progress, exported back to MS Project or Primavera P6.

01

Get the XML

Open each project in Project desktop and use Save As › XML. Aimavera reads MS Project XML, not .mpp, so this is the one step that needs Project.

02

Open it here

Drop the .xml on the Studio. Tasks, the summary structure, links with lags, calendars, constraints, resources and progress come across, and the schedule is recalculated by the engine.

03

Keep working, together

Edit, baseline, run the weekly update and print reports. Tabs hold several programmes; a shared folder holds the team’s journals; live sessions put two planners on one schedule - without a server holding it.

What moves across, and what does not

MS Project XML carries the schedule itself: tasks and summaries, durations, predecessors with types and lags, task and project calendars, constraints, deadlines, resources, assignments and progress. Aimavera reads all of those and says what it could not hold.

What lived in Project Online itself - the PWA portfolio, timesheets, enterprise custom fields and the resource pool shared across projects - is not in the XML and is not rebuilt here. Each project comes across as a working schedule; tabs and the portfolio roll-up give you several at once.

Questions

No. Save each project as XML from Project desktop first; MS Project XML is the open format it reads.

Yes. Export MS Project XML at any time, free up to 100 tasks and £15 per user per month above. Primavera P6 XER export is there too, if a client asks for it.

In your browser, on your machine. Nothing is uploaded. Teams share through a folder they already have, such as SharePoint or OneDrive.

Tabs and a folder roll-up give a table of every programme - finish, critical count, DCMA score - read locally. A hosted enterprise portfolio with a shared resource pool is not built yet.
